Documents that tell your story

Send me your messy draft.
Get back a document that tells your story.

CVs, slide decks, proposals, impact reports and life stories. I find the story in your content, rebuild it around why, what and impact, then make it look the part.

Why it works

Most documents list what you did. Yours will say what changed.

Templates make documents look tidy. They can't tell your story. Before I touch the words or the design, I work out who will read it and what you need from them, then build everything around that.

01

Who's in the room?

Trustees, a funder, a hiring manager, your grandchildren. The audience shapes everything.

02

What do you need them to say yes to?

Funding, an interview, a decision, a memory kept. Everything builds towards it.

03

What's the one thing they must remember?

That becomes the line nobody can miss.

The proof

Read only the titles.

If the titles or headings tell the story on their own, the document works. Here's a sample food bank update to trustees.

The title test

Do the titles tell the story?

Before: a list of topics
  • Quarterly Update
  • Q3 Activities and Results
  • Next Steps / Winter Planning
After: a story with an ask
  • Q3: more families, faster help
  • We fed 1,138 households, 412 of them for the first time
  • Without £18,500, our stock runs out by mid-January
How it works

Three simple steps.

01

Book and send your draft

Pay online, then upload your document or notes and answer three quick questions.

02

I rebuild the story and design

Fast: 24 hours for decks, a few days for longer documents. Cutting, reordering and redesigning so every part earns its place.

03

You review, I polish

One round of changes, then a final editable file, plus a PDF, ready to use.

Who it's for

For anyone with an important document and no time to make it good.

01

Charities and non-profits

Trustee updates, funding bids, impact reports for funders.

02

Heritage and family history

Project bids, member newsletters, memoir chapters and life stories.

03

Volunteer and youth programmes

Volunteer inductions, partner updates, celebration events.

04

Job seekers and small businesses

CVs, LinkedIn profiles, pitches, proposals and articles.

About me

20 years of finding the story. Now I find yours.

I'm Chris Pattenden. For 20 years I've designed curriculum, training and messaging, and helped teams and individuals understand the impact of what they do, through teaching, mentoring, and improving processes and operations.

The lesson has always been the same. It's never just what you did. It's why you did it, who benefited and what changed. That's the story your audience needs to hear, and it's what I build every document around.

Experience with
  • Charities
  • Volunteers

01

20 years designing curriculum and messaging

Turning complicated material into something people understand and act on.

02

Why, then what, then impact

The order every document follows, so your reader gets the point before the detail.

03

Real human judgement

Every document is read, rebuilt and designed by me.

Over to you

Got a document you're dreading?

A CV, a pitch, a funding bid, a family story. Send it over and get back something that says what changed, not just what you did.
